Job summary
Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design and operation of company products in an assigned region of Canada. Based at the Laval, QC office, this position requires frequent travel throughout eastern Canada. Work hours are irregular but are based on a 40 hour, 5-day work week.
Responsibilities and authorities
Assisted by the Service Technicians and Designers, the Field Engineer duties incude performing field measurement work, overseeing design and development projects, providing technical support to Area Managers, Service Technicians, and customers, and participating in research and development activities. The Field engineers are also responsible for approving the technical aspect of performance guarantees, determinining the disposition of non conforming products, assisting in the determination of PartnerChip costs, and verifying the feasibility of technical undertakings under their responsibility.
Field Engineers are responsible for verifying and approving designs and associated technical specifications on projects up to a maximum of $100,000 in cost. They are also authorized to approve the technical aspect of performance guarantees on projects not exceeding $50,000. On projects of higher value, their recommendations/work must be approved by the Engineering Manager. Field Engineers may also approve expenditures of up to $5,000 for modifications related to troubleshooting or other product modification necessary to respect performance guarantees.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) or Bachelor or Applied Science (Mechanical Engineering), or equivalent. Member in good standing with the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
